First kits in series based on Qorivva 32-bit microcontrollers; kits
based on S12 and S12 MagniV 16-bit MCUs planned for future release
DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 2012--
Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL) today introduced a new series of
fully loaded motor control development kits, offering developers one of
the most integrated automotive permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM)
or brushless DC (BLDC) motor control solutions on the market today. The
first development kits in the series feature Freescale’s Qorivva 32-bit
microcontrollers (MCUs) built on Power Architecture®
technology and include hardware and software that help reduce the time
needed to develop automotive motor control applications such as HVAC
blowers, electric power steering, engine cooling fans, fuel, water and
oil pumps and wipers.
The motor control development kit series offers a full breadth of
multi-functional, scalable solutions that can be tailored for a
customer’s unique automotive motor control needs. The initial motor
control development kits are powered by the latest Qorivva 32-bit MCUs,
including the MPC560xP, MPC564xL and MPC560xB families and feature the
latest motor control peripherals such as FlexPWM, CTU, ADC and eTimer
modules. Customers can take advantage of these modules to develop a
deterministic motor control application with minimal core impact.
Integral to the development kits’ software are the motor control
algorithms that control the speed and motor current depending on
customer demands. The Automotive Math and Motor Control Library’s
modular architecture makes it easy to port the application software
across the MCU families and reduce software development time by
providing a precompiled software library that contains the building
blocks for a wide range of motor control and automotive embedded
applications.
"It usually takes a developer weeks or even months to implement a stable
and optimized PMSM or BLDC motor control solution,” said Steve Pancoast,
vice president of product solutions for Freescale’s Automotive,
Industrial & Multi-Market Solutions Group. “Our new automotive motor
control solutions based on Qorivva MCUs offer a comprehensive hardware
and software package that will get a developer up and running quickly,
speeding time to market while reducing overall development costs.”
Automotive motor control solutions
The motor control development kits are delivered with quality
documentation and tools environment and include the following:
-
Controller board with the latest Qorivva 32-bit MCU
-
Three-phase low-voltage power stage board with the MC33937A FET
pre-driver
-
Motor control application software available in source code, based on
the Automotive Math and Motor Control Library Set
-
Comprehensive documentation: controller board and power stage user
guides with board schematics and development kit application notes
-
FreeMASTER visualization/instrumentation tool, excellent for tuning,
debugging and demos
Availability
The initial motor control development kits featuring Qorivva MCUs
address the needs of PMSM and BLDC motor control designs. Freescale
plans to extend the series over the course of the next 12 months to
include additional Qorivva kits as well as kits based on the S12 and S12
MagniV 16-bit mixed-signal MCU product lines.
