| Freescale USB software stack addresses medical industry’s portability and standardization requirements | |||||||||||||||

Compatible with Continua host emulator software and designed to meet key personal health care USB device standards TOKYO (Freescale Technology Forum Japan) – Sept. 9, 2009 – Freescale Semiconductor has released its first universal serial bus (USB) software stack designed for a wide range of personal medical device applications. Available as a complimentary offering for selected Freescale microcontrollers (MCUs), the USB stack for medical applications meets the guidelines for Continua Health Alliance connectivity. Freescale’s medical USB software provides developers with a source code solution engineered to enable official Continua device certification. The benefit of Continua device certification is the peace of mind and brand recognition that comes with using a standard that is backed by a consortium consisting of more than 200 member companies from the technology and medical device markets. The Continua Health Alliance certifies products year-round and conducts a product plug-fest during regular summit meetings. The medical USB stack from Freescale provides standardization, connectivity and portability capabilities to existing Freescale 8-bit MCU portfolios and is designed to help customers accelerate medical product development and speed time to market. Freescale’s medical USB software also is available for the MCF51JM128 ColdFire® MCU and is planned to be available for other ColdFire MCUs in the future.
