| Freescale receives five distinguished awards for technology leadership |
Industry accolades spotlight Freescale’s continued global excellence in telematics, embedded control and green applications AUSTIN, Texas – July 7, 2008 – Freescale Semiconductor recently received global recognition for technology leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability across a broad spectrum of product categories, from telematics processors to general-purpose microcontrollers (MCUs) to analog battery-charger integrated circuits. Freescale’s MPC5121e microprocessor was highlighted at Telematics Detroit 2008 in May for significant contributions to the advancement of the telematics industry. The Freescale Flexis™ MCU family was recognized by three publications – Electronic Products-China, Electronique International and Portable Design – for its exceptional compatibility and innovation. In addition, the Freescale battery charger IC family (MC34671/3/4/5 devices) was identified by SemiApps.com as one of the greenest semiconductor designs in 2008. “Freescale’s key priority is to win the hearts and minds of our customers with leading-edge, high-performance, power-efficient processor, MCU and analog solutions,” said Henri Richard, Freescale’s senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer. “Winning worldwide industry accolades in the highly-competitive telematics, embedded control and analog design arenas make the positive recognition and reception we receive from our customers even more rewarding.” For the second consecutive year, Freescale was awarded the prestigious “Best Telematics Component Solution Award” at the eighth annual Telematics Detroit conference for the MPC5121e processor, a member of the mobileGT™ processor family. The annual Telematics Update Awards program recognizes and honors companies that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the telematics industry. Securing three industry awards this year, Freescale’s Flexis series of MCUs garnered the “Product of the Year Award” presented by Electronic Products-China for the S08 core and V1 ColdFire® core. The Product of the Year Awards are evaluated on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application, and substantial achievement in price and performance. Freescale’s Flexis MCU series also received an “Electron d’or,” or “Gold Electron,” award by Electronique International-France for best-in-class product. The Flexis series won in the “Coup de Coeur” or “The One We Loved” category for being the first product to enable compatibility across 8-bit and 32-bit MCU architectures. Recognized as one of the most innovative underlying technologies for portable consumer devices, Freescale’s Flexis 8-bit MC9S08QE8 (QE8) MCUs received the 2008 Portable Design Editor’s Choice Award in the processor category. The QE8 devices were selected out of thousands of products for their ability to enable cutting-edge portable electronics. Online readers of SemiApps.com chose Freescale’s MC3467x Li-Ion battery charger IC family as one of the “greenest” semiconductor applications in the 2008 Green SemiApps Contest, sponsored by Hearst Electronics Group. Winning a silver medal in the contest, the Li-Ion battery charger IC family is designed to offer exceptional performance and voltage accuracy without sacrificing battery capacity. “Environmental sustainability is a vital concern throughout the semiconductor industry,” said Murray Slovick, editorial director for Electronic Products magazine. “Freescale’s MC3467x family exemplifies next-generation semiconductor technology that has the potential to help advance sustainable battery technology and make the world a greener place.” About the MPC5121e processor About the Flexis family About the MC3467x family About Freescale Semiconductor Media Contacts: Emilie Harris Asia-Pacific Europe, Middle East and Africa India Japan Reader Inquiry Response Freescale and the Freescale logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. in the U.S. and other countries.
